After DC announced an exclusive deal with Amazon last week to distribute digital copies of their graphic novels, Barnes & Noble decided to pull the hard copies off their shelves.
Mary Ellen Keating, a B&N spokesperson issued the following:
We pulled those 100 DC Comics graphic novels that we were not offered in digital format. Our policy is that unless we receive all formats of a title to make available to our customers, we will not sell those physical titles in our stores.
While I’m all for digital versions of comics and graphic novels, I wish they could be released through an app such as Comixology, instead of these side deals where long-time distributors get left out. I can understand why B&N would be angry and why they would want to pull their books. In the end, they probably realize that digital comics are the future and they want to make sure they aren’t left behind.
